I hope everyone has enjoyed some holiday time with good food and good people. I know I have and am thankful for the time that I do get to spend with everyone.

For those that haven’t seen it, the EK Gazzette has a great write up about the Iron Scribe event that was held recently. https://eastkingdomgazette.org/2018/11/24/iron-scribe-reinvents-scribal-focused-events/#more-15447

Everyone I’ve talked to about it has had a great time, and shows the Shire off in a great light. Vivat.

Upcoming we have K+Q fencing champs happing on Dec 8th at the Nashoba Regional High School in Bolton ma.

Hello!

Now that we kick back into the fall season I wanted to call attention to some of the many endeavors that happen into the shire.  Quintavia is a large and active Shire and if you know someone who might be interested in any or all of these activities please drag them along.

Start on the Street Demo  — September 16th  (setup starts at 10am) runs to 5pm.

https://www.facebook.com/events/671311646577978/

Start on the street (https://www.startonthestreet.org/start-street-fall-edition)  is a wonderful arts / crafts festival that the City of Worcester puts on where there are 300+ local artists.  We have a great location in front of Elm park where we talk about SCA and demo some of the martial activities.  Come in garb or not but this is our best demo of the year hosted by Baroness Fortune so you don’t want to miss it.

King + Queens Fencing Champs  (December 8th)

http://eastkingdom.org/EventDetails.php?eid=3397

Quintavia is hosting K+Q fencing champs this year at the Nashoba reginal high school in Bolton ma.   We’ll discuss this in the coming months but even if you don’t fence it’s a good spectacle to watch and we also need help with setup, gate, heralds, list runners and the like.

The Shire hosts a number of Weekly Practices in  Heavy List,  Fencing,  Archery and Thrown Weapons.  See  https://quintavia.eastkingdom.org/events-practices/practices-meetings/  for more information.

European dance continues on the first Tuesday of the month!   Next practice is Tuesday September 4th from 7:30 – 9:30 pm at the Camelot Common House.  See https://quintavia.eastkingdom.org/events-practices/directions/  for directions.

Scribal A+S Moots continue at the 4rth Tuesday of the month!  Next moot is August 28th.

August 28th – 15th C Gothic manuscripts: Part 1, illumination style and calligraphy

September 25th – 15th C Gothic manuscripts: Part 2, white work

October 23rd – Making Oak Gall Ink

Please note you can come to one or both of the 15th C Gothic classes, but will get the most out of it if you can attend both parts.

Scribal help and troubleshooting will still be available at all moots as time allows.

As always, the Moot will be 7-9pm at the Camelot Common House (main room) located at 69 Village Ct in Berlin, MA.

See https://quintavia.eastkingdom.org/events-practices/directions/.

As you can see that is a lot of activities. If you know anyone worthy please write them in.  You can check to see what awards someone has here.  https://op.eastkingdom.org/op.php

And the link for writing someone in is here https://surveys.eastkingdom.org/index.php/945932/lang-en

Hafla Thank You

I just want to take a moment say thank you to everyone who came out to our Hafla on Saturday!

First I’d like to thank the set-up and clean up crews: Rosina and Andreiko, Corwin – you weren’t able to stay for the event but came and help out anyways. Our head cat-herder Matthias, Meabh, Mikjáll, and his Grace Edward and his squire (so sorry I can’t recall your name!) Set up was done with twenty minutes to spare and clean up was even faster. You are all amazing.

My Kitchen crew: Lord Alexsei and Lady Elvira led the charge and delivered food that was raved about, throughout the hall. Thank you for making it all work in a new space.

The magnificent Lady Toi….without you the hall would have been bare and our tummies slightly less full. Thank you for everything you do for this event year after year.

Her Grace Thyra who is my dace group liaison and music provider.

A huge thank you goes out to our dancers (BRS, Baklava, and the Eves) and out attendees. We love seeing you each year and without you all it would be one pretty dull day! I hope I’ve not missed anyone but if I have and even if I haven’t: Thank you, thank you, thank you.

It’s such a pleasure and a joy to help put this together but I could never do it alone.

Until next year!

Lady Perronnelle de Croy

Quintavian Defender’s Tourney 2016

UPDATED!

The Defenders are the Shire of Quintavia’s Champions. They have won the right to bear their titles and regalia through our annual Defender’s Tourney.

This year we will be choosing the defenders with the good will of our Neighbors in Bergental at their annual Sommer Draw event at the beautiful Moses scout reservation, June 15-17th.(The tournaments will be on the 16th)   The shire member that places the best in each of the competition will be named as the Defender for the current year.

Specific to the Arts and Science competition

Our annual Arts and Sciences competition is being held at Sommer Draw in Bergental this weekend. Bring your best completed projects or works in progress. Documentation will not be required, but you will be asked to provide a quick write up describing your submission. The entries will be judged blindly by a panel of judges and populace vote. Good luck to all, and we look forward to seeing your projects next weekend!

If you are curious on the shire borders, please see this map. http://wiki.eastkingdom.org/index.php?title=File:Shiremap.JPG

More information on the Defenders, and who the current / past champions where can be found here,

http://quintavia.eastkingdom.org/home-page/defenders/

For those who won’t be at 50th year, come and partake in a day of friendly competition and comradeship. I look forward to seeing you there.

Yule Is Just Around the Corner!

It’s nearing that time of year again! Yule is right around the corner and we will be holding our Shire’s too-cool Yule on Saturday, December 19th from 12pm to 6pm.

It’s a low-key pot-luck get-together that’s garb optional. Games and activities are planned for the younger members of the Shire. We will also be giving out our Keeper Awards!

Yule Gift Swap

We will be doing a Viking (aka Yankee) Gift Swap. If you want to be part of the swap, please bring a wrapped, SCA-themed gift of about $10 value. This swap is for adults, there is a separate gift swap for children with a $5 gift. Youth (17 and under) gifts do not need to be SCA-themed, but should be appropriate for either gender. (Ideas are books, crafts, or puzzles for a wide variety of age groups.)
