Spring Practice

Hi all,

 

Please feel invited to the annual spring practice this coming 28th/29th.  Spring practice is a chance for new folks to try out activities, experience people to kick the rust off and in general to practice some of what the SCA offers.

 

The festivities for both days happen at Camelot Cohousing (69 Village Ct, Berlin Ma, 01503)

 

A general schedule

4/20

 

Location  Barn and Field next to it

11  — 1pm  Newcomer focused HL activities.  Come try on armor, swing a stick and see if it interests you.

1 – 5pm (ish)  —  Pickups and then Small melee drills  Balfar’s Challenge – SCA Armored Combat)

1 -5pm  Youth fighting activities (assuming parents to help wrangle kids)

 

Common House

Noon – 5pm.  A+S Project work.  Bring your project to work on and hang out.

 

5pm+  Potluck

We’ll have some basic grillables, bring something to share or a 5 dollar donation.

 

4/28 ( note this is a week after the HL Saturday because of scheduling this year)

10am —  1pm  Target Archery.  New and Closer range!

 

Location  Barn and Field next to it

1pm  — 5pm Fencing Activities.  Singles and then melee drills. Note this is no Sunday practice this week in millbury come here instead 🙂

 

Common House

Noon – 5pm.  A+S Project work.  Bring your project to work on and hang out.

5pm+  Potluck

We’ll have some basic grillables, bring something to share or a 5 dollar donation.

Thank you for a wonderful Coronation

Thank you for a wonderful coronation, in general everyone I talked to was pleased with the day and I know the staff of TRM was very pleased with the site, and everything put together.

For the folks I didn’t get the name of either, in the kitchen, running gate,pulling trailers, helping with cleanup and in general making the event run thank you.

Thank you to the staff of the event, your work places the Shire and the SCA in a good light. I do know the Church folks were very impressed with the event, and how we left their facilities and would love to have us back for another event.

I’m going to give Simona a special callout for doing an excellent job running a kingdom event for the first time. Thank you.

We’ll discuss the event at the next business meeting (the 15th) but I expect we won’t have all the paperwork wrapped up so we’ll debrief it in may as well.

Officers!

Hi,

I like to take a moment to thank the officer’s and deputy officer’s in the Shire.  These people do the yeoman’s work in making the practices and gatherings in the Shire happen, and without them we would all be in a lesser place in terms of what we get out of the SCA.  Vivat!

A listing of the current officers and their deputies can be found here. The Shire is large and active as can be seen on the practice listing page. and it is due in large part to these folks making the Shire function. Saying that we do have some open positions and/or officers who are in a current position that need to step back. If you are interested in any of the open / looking for replacement positions, or want to ask what the office entails please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. We also have an archive of all the business meeting minutes for the last few years, that is also a good place to learn more about what the various offices entail.

Buisness Meeting 3/11

Meeting is 3/11 starting at 11am in the Camelot  Common House (69 Village Ct Berlin MA)

In addition to the event items,  we are looking for a volunteer to put together information for a shire display at EK 50y.  We also have elections for the following positions.  Exchequer,  MoaS, Chancellor Minor,  and Dance.   Also  we are looking for replacement officers for Chamberlain and Chatelaine as those folks need to step back from the position.  On the job training offered 　:)

Dance Practice!

Welcome to March, everyone! We have one dance practice before the Black Rose Ball, so you know you want to come to this one 🙂 Practice runs 7:30-9:30pm, in the Camelot Common House.

(By the way, the results of the survey indicated that there wasn’t another day, time, or frequency that was better than the current schedule, so we’re sticking with this for now. Thanks to everyone who responded, we may run it again in a few months to see if things change.)

 

There is a dinner (not part of the practice, but folks are welcome to come) being prepared beforehand by Matthias starting at 6:00pm.
Dinner is $5.

Quintavia Business Meeting , March

Greetings,

The next business meeting will be march 11th at 69 Village court, berlin ma (in the upstairs large common room)

We will be wrapping up the very successful embroidery schola as well as talking up coronation and possible a bid for EK fencing champs.

Ek 50 Year displays

EK 50 Year  is up coming and there are two opportunities to show off the history of the shire, please let me know of your interest.   The first is the EK Yearbook,  and  the second is a history booth at the hall of history.  I’ve includes information for both below.

Greetings!

My name is Lady Emma Wakefield, and I am putting together the site book/group “yearbook” for the upcoming East Kingdom 50 Year event. Each group has a full page of the site book to tell a little about who they are, their history, and definitely include a picture or two.

Please send me submissions by March 30. I can take either raw informaion as text & images and I will lay them out in a manner that I think looks good, or you may send me a pdf of your page in the format you prefer. Please keep in mind that the book will be in black & white and the page size is 8 1/2″ x 11″.

Hall of History

We ask all booths to have the following:

  • A banner or sign displaying the name of the Barony or Shire
  • A large Baronial/Shire device displaying the arms of the Barony/Shire
  • Baronial Lineage
  • Pictures or items that are a part of the Barony’s/Shire’s history (example: coronets, gowns, casting molds from important items, mantles, old armor, new armor etc.)
  • Information on the history and traditions of the Barony/Shire

Recommended but not required:

  • Any written Barony/Shire histories
  • Displays of Barony/Shire traditions
  • Lists and depictions of Baronial/Shire level awards
  • All the things that make your Barony/Shire unique!

We are using the standard Kingdom divisions and each section has a contact person. For the present time, however, we ask that all communications regarding the Halls of History and Memorial Garden (information to come) be sent to the entire team at EK50thSCA@gmail.com.

Business Meeting — Jan 2018

Happy new year!

Everyone is coordinately invited to the January business meeting.  What plans do folks have?  What events have we signed up for now?  Come and find out!

Location is currently 69 Village court  Berlin, Ma,  in the gaming room (downstairs room) but that change to the mosaic common house.  If it does I’ll post again.

Shire Yule — Tommorow!

Quintavia Yule is Tomorrow, from noon to 4pm or so at the Camelot Common House (69 Village Ct, Berlin, Ma).
This is a relaxed garb optional event, and is mainly a just chance to hang out with folks in the Shire.

Food is potluck, and there is a Viking swap.
The Viking Swap is just like a Yankee Swap, but with no grumbling. Gifts should be of interest to SCAdians, approximately $10 in value, and brought wrapped. Anyone mature enough to be a good sport at being robbed is welcome to participate.
Gifts for children too young to go a-viking are also encouraged
Finally the Keepers for the new year will be announced.
