Shire Yule — Tommorow!

Quintavia Yule is Tomorrow, from noon to 4pm or so at the Camelot Common House (69 Village Ct, Berlin, Ma).
This is a relaxed garb optional event, and is mainly a just chance to hang out with folks in the Shire.
More information can be found here  (https://quintavia.eastkingdom.org/events-practices/events/yule/).
Food is potluck, and there is a Viking swap.
The Viking Swap is just like a Yankee Swap, but with no grumbling. Gifts should be of interest to SCAdians, approximately $10 in value, and brought wrapped. Anyone mature enough to be a good sport at being robbed is welcome to participate.
Gifts for children too young to go a-viking are also encouraged
Finally the Keepers for the new year will be announced.

Open positions

Hello,

As with the any group in the SCA the Shire of Quintavia is a volunteer organization  and as such we depend on the good will and energy of the people filling the Officer roles so everyone can continue to have fun.

While we do well in keeping roles filled,  there is always a small turnover as people take well deserved breaks, and the desire to have more deputies to spread the work around

In particular Elena and Perronelle would like to take step back from the Chamberlain and Chancellor Minor positions respectively.

On the job training is happily provided 🙂

A listing of current positions, can be found here.

Shire Officers

If you are interested in any of these positions, or being a deputy please let myself and the current officer know,

Thank you,

Matthias

Email Posts Poll

Hello to the mighty populace of the Shire of Quintavia!

This is your friendly, local, webminister checking in. At the past business meeting, this past Sunday, we discussed the weekly email notices of posts on the blog. The general feedback was that the way the email blasts are not working as is. The information, when it arrives in your inbox is too late to be useful using a once weekly blast. I picked this option initially to minimize the amount of mail into your inbox because I know that we all get more than enough. To that end, there are three options that are available.

At the meeting we discussed adding a second email blast and making it go on Monday and Fridays. With the new update to the plugin it allows us to do an immediate email blast with the newest post. Unfortunately, it’s an all or nothing deal. So if three posts are written on Monday, you’ll get three separate emails. Granted, there’s not a lot of fluff that is posted here and getting three in a day would be a once in a blue moon occasion. With this in mind, I would ask that you please select your preferred solution to improve our current situation in the poll below.

The SCA is a volunteer organization and work best when people are recognized for the good work that they do.  The heart of that recognition is the  Kingdom (and baronial) award system.  But for people to be brought to the royals attention they need to be written in.   I was going to post some thoughts on writing people in for awards but it turns out someone has already posted a very comprehensive guide on the eastkingdom wiki.

https://wiki.eastkingdom.org/index.php?title=Recommending_Someone_for_an_Award

Please check it out if you haven’t done so already.

The awards form can be found here  http://surveys.eastkingdom.org/index.php/945932/lang-en  (it is linked on the main page of the EK website).

One tip that I like that isn’t covered in the wiki article is I save all of my award recommendations,  as with any writing style it helps to practice it.  So having an archive of  recommendations to look over when I’m written people in helps make the next one better.

Between the Award of Arms,  AOA level  “silver” awards, grant level awards and peerages, there is a large range of  awards focusing on people’s progression as they put more time and energy and skill in.

The OP database page as a nice listing of the  awards and handy way of searching if some has an award already.

Thank you

No archery this week 10/8

The weather looks meh, and unless another marshal wants to run practice, I believe all our regulars are busy this Sunday.

Attendance has been light during September, but the plan is to run through October and as long as the weather is warm enough (which could be a long time this year, who knows). Put it in your calendars, and come out to shoot with us!
