• EKU
• Letters for officer changes
• Answering Inquiries from newcomers

Exchequer:

• $4167.46 in account.

Herald:
• (Open)

Arts and Science:

• Sent email report.
• Strawberries are looking good – planning a liquor making class for the first part of April. Since this cannot be held at the school, I am planning on holding it at my house. Any other ideas for location please email me.
• Working on a stencil for Shire favors and looking for wooden blanks.

Marshall of Fence:

• Still need one more part to finish the drop tester.

Minister of Siege:

• On March 6th, we had the Revel and featured small Siege engines, with a competition.
• The Revel was well attended by 28-30 members and the Kingdom Siege Marshal, Lord Graywolf. The children had a wonderful competition and were awarded scrolls done by Lady Isabel.
• The East Kingdom is in need of bowstrings. Lord Graywolf brought a bowstring jig and materials. We would like Quintavians to take a turn at practices on the jig. If each of us works 20 minutes and then passes it on to the next person, we can help the Kingdom and not over-tax anyone.

Chatelaine:

• Washed and ironed the tablecloths from the Revel.
• There are Gold Key items that need repair. Also, need belts of any kind.
• It was decided that April 10th practice would be used for Gold Key repair. Please come and help as you can… contribute cording, fabric, help sew, etc.

Historian:

• The Shire History book is underway. Please drop by at any practice and help the Historian enter information.

Web minister:

• Still working on a new template for the Shire Web site
• There will be a section on thrown weapons.

Chronicler:

• Not present. (Minutes taken by Lady Isabel)

Old Business

The EKU had a solid turnout of around 50-60 attendees. The dayboard was superior! The Site was fabulous, with plenty of space and a great turnout. The event ended up losing about $6, but was an excellent service to the Kingdom. Thank you to everyone who showed up and helped. Everything went smoothly and Quintavia made a good impression.

The Shire Revel was a great success. As mentioned, we had 28-30 members. The potluck was great. Special mention goes to the fabulous Castle centerpiece created by our new Chatelaine, Toi and the very impressive Field of Battle Cake, created by Lord Black Leopard’s Lady, Bonnie. And honorable mention to Lady Elspeth’s scrumptious stew!! Vivat to all.

New Business

Received one letter of intent for the open Herald position from Lady Brigit of Longwood. We will vote on her letter at the next business meeting in April.

Lady Isabel asked the Shire for an approval to get Shire Brochures printed. Elisheva made a motion to approve apprx. $100 for printing costs to print color and black and white brochures and Harold seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.

Toi passed out directions and the “plan” for the Girl Scout Demo. She also took orders for pizza for those who would be attending. Harold, Kelvin, Black Leopard, Rolland and Pat all committed to coming for H/L. Alan, Isabel, Eleanor, Elisheva, Alice, and Andrea also affirmed they would be attending.

Boredom War will need some help at troll, site clean up, and parking. Anyone who can volunteer for even a short time, please contact Lady Eleanor.

Duchess Katherine emailed the Seneschal a bid for Les Jeux, being held on September 10, 2005. She will use the same site as in previous years. The budget is approximately $700, with around an expected attendance of 65 adults and 10 children. Site fees will be $10 per adult, $5 for children 5-18 and under 5 free. She would like to add children’s activities and possibly an Arts and Sciences exhibit or competition. She welcomes ideas that go with the theme of Horses/hawks/hounds (no fighting, fencing or archery).

Some of her ideas:

Stick horse jousting for the kids
A model horse-barding contest for the kids (pre cut felt pieces, glue on jewels, etc)
Decorated dog collar contest for the kids (piece of fabric with buckle attached, glue on jewels, etc)
A&S contest or exhibition with horse/hawks/hounds theme
Bardic competition with horse/hawks/hounds theme
To make the watching the equestrian stuff more interesting:
Invite the spectators to walk the course so they can see exactly what the riders will be doing.
Have ribbons for spectators to give to their favorite riders
Have someone stationed inside the tent to give commentary
Some sort of bio sheet, which will tell people about the horses and riders (kind of like Crown Tourney's Betting Man's Guide)
Some sort of "All You Ever Wanted to Know About Horses Class" which includes a horse to meet & pet.
A motion was made by Lady Eleanor and seconded by Lady Andrea to approve the Les Jeux, 2005 bid. Motion passed unanimously.

Meeting adjourned.
